Welcome To Matisse

The Matisse Olive Grove is nestled in the world famous Margaret River wine region of Western Australia. Over 3500 trees have been planted since 1999, with the major tree stock being the Greek Kalamata and the Tuscan – Frantoio/ Correggiola cultivars.

As maximum light and air penetration increases the tree's health and crop yields, our rows are planted in the recommended North-South direction with tree spacing being the traditional 5m between each tree and 8m between each row of trees (250 trees/ha).

Too much water is the worst enemy of the olive tree. Soil type and drainage systems allow water to get away efficiently both above and below the ground surface. The Matisse grove is planted in the best possible combination of a North facing gentle sandy slope, allowing excellent drainage and maximum sunlight, with abundant spring fed water for summer irrigation. The region’s climate of cool to cold winters with some frost and hot dry summers is ideal for olive growing.
